  2. Jan 25,  · The only stinker on this LP is "Blues," which was a 2-sided 78 rpm disc by Artie Shaw, and even that was a stiff, but the rest of the album is fine. This album was also issued on open-reel tape, which sounds awesome if you can find a copy and have a deck on which to play it/5(8).

A Tribute To Artie Shaw: Big Band Collector's Series It should be noted that Maxwell Davis, considering this was a budget release, arranged the public domain tune "La Paloma" in the style of "Begin the Beguine" for this album to avoid having to pay royalties to Cole Porter!   4. Nice stereo re-creations of some of Artie Shaw's hits. This reel tape sounds better than vinyl copies, considering it's a well-recorded album, and the tape is free of surface noise. Sound: A, Performance: A, Selections: B+ (docked a grade for the inclusion of "Blues" and the substitution of 5/5(1).

  9. This is supposed to be a tribute to Artie Shaw by studio musicians. However, they did not pick the - sides which were, in my opinion, his best swinging sides. I would have included, "Lady be Good, Begin the Beguine, Traffic Jam, Back Bay Shuffle and several others of that time period The clarinetist was close to Artie's sound, but 3/5(2).
